Teachers and youth leaders are invited to take part in the Ridge Climate Care Awards, an initiative developed by Ridge Clean Energy to help young people better understand climate change and explore practical ways they can take positive action.

The Climate Care Awards encourage sustainable living while helping young people build awareness and confidence around climate issues. The programme aims to inspire pupils to make meaningful contributions to the health of our planet while also helping to reduce eco-anxiety by showing that individual actions can make a difference.

The awards are structured across three levels:

  • Bronze – Awareness
  • Silver – Action
  • Gold – Leadership

As pupils complete activities and demonstrate their understanding, they can progress through the levels and receive badges recognising their achievements.

The resources available here include guidance on how to introduce the awards, an activity bank with suggested climate learning exercises, success criteria for assessing progress, and materials that support pupils as they work towards each award level. The programme is designed for use with school classes, eco-clubs, or youth groups and can be adapted for different ages and learning environments.

The Climate Care Awards have already been successfully introduced in schools in Oxfordshire. At Charlbury Primary School, pupils took part in activities designed to understand their carbon footprint and explore ways to reduce it, from everyday lifestyle choices to engaging with wider environmental issues. Their efforts were recognised in a celebration event where pupils received the inaugural awards for their commitment to climate action.

More recently, the programme has also been delivered alongside climate science workshops run with the education charity Climate Ed, helping pupils deepen their understanding of climate change through practical learning sessions. Students explored topics such as travel emissions, food and greenhouse gases, and the carbon cost of everyday items, while working towards their Climate Care Awards.

We are now making the Climate Care Awards resource pack available for teachers and youth leaders to download and use with their own groups.

If you do download or use the materials, we would be grateful if you could contact us at ccawards@theridgegroup.com. This helps us keep a record of which schools and organisations are using the resources and allows us to support teachers who may have questions about running the programme.

We would also be very pleased to hear from you if you plan to introduce the Climate Care Awards in your school or youth group, or if you have any enquiries about the materials.
